Thanks. I'll try to get BRMS into the next budget year, but that starts
next July. We already have a few extra PC's and Client Access. Is there a
way to switch from a twin-ax console to a PC console? I saw something about
that somewhere. I also heard that using a twin-ax card from Bosa Nova works
too.

Yes, QCTL must end to get a full save. The only way to get an
unattended restricted state back up is to use one of the tape management
systems, BRMS, Robot/Save, or LXI's product to name three. You need to
have a monitor job that is capable of running in QCTL while it is
ended. You can write your own but it's not for the faint of heart to
do. BRMS is inexpensive so it should be considered strongly and it's
backed by IBM support. The others work too, and have some feature
function that BRMS does not have.

QCTL never gets ended though does it? I have scheduled our nightly backup
to run in that subsystem.

Daniel,

(Running V5R3, but the principles, IMHO, should stay the same).

The name of the program that is executed with GO SAVE 21 is, IIRC,
QMNSRBND. It is quite complex and I believe you would be better
served by
just typing 21 (don't press enter) while in the GO SAVE menu and then
pressing the help key. The help text shows you all the commands that
are
run under a GO SAVE 21 option.

I don't know if it can be run with a WRKJOBSCDE (never tried it),
but my
best guess would be*no*, as a GO SAVE 21 implies the ending of
susbsystems, including, of course, QBATCH and its similars. In a
worst case
scenario, you could just create a small CLP that recreates the GO
SAVE 21
options and just add a delay before it. Run it in your console when
leaving
Friday afternoon.
