We use http://www-304.ibm.com/partnerworld/gsd/solutiondetails.do?&solution=29341&lc=en and http://americas.clickatell.com/?gclid=COW8h7zrqLMCFQ-f4AodtFAAHg
As the SMS gateway. The two work together. It would be possible to just use the clickatell API but the BlueSeries SMS makes it easier and will log everything you send and has an incoming SMS API as well as outgoing API for RPP.

We use to try and use the email gateways to send SMS (as in xxxyyyzzzz@xxxxxxxxx) but trying to keep up with the domains to use for email was impossible. Many providers have multiple domains due to mergers and buyouts. And Tracfone type users don't have their own since they use other service providers and were always hit and miss as to what domain to use.

I have a requirement to send text messages directly from my iSeries V6R1.
I will have a database with Cell phone number but not carrier.

I have found one vendor with a JAVA API's to send using their service from
any platform. Is there a way to look up a Cell phone number and find the
carrier so we can send via email gateways? Is there a way to send SMS
text messages directly without an email gateway? We are looking at
sending 24K per month to start.
