Now why would he select POWER if he has a POWER5?? :-) Honestly that unit is to IBM a 'System i' as that's what it was when manufactured and for most items you really do want to start down the correct path or it can be difficult to get the right combination of firmware etc.

I think what Paul's after is that it seems IBM is 'trying' to tell him not to go to 7.750. However on the supported versions table it IS shown as legit to connect a 7.750 HMC to a POWER5 with appropriate firmware.

It seems odd to me that I'm able to order HMC 7.7.5 and there's SP1
available but when I go to this URL,
http://www-304.ibm.com/webapp/set2/sas/f/power5cm/supportedcode.html, I
can click on supported code combinations under Power 7, Power 6 or Power 5
then click on High-End, Mid-Range, or Entry-Level systems and they all
show V7R7.4 as the latest level. Am I missing something or did that last
remaining QA/web site maintenance staff member at IBM finally retire? I'd
like to feel comfortable putting all my HMC's at 7.7.5 and I think I do but
seeing it on this web site would be good.
