Some years ago (2008), I was staying at a Disney World Resort and, at
checkout time, was attended by one of the resort managers.

He had a laptop above a small stand and, surprise! It was running a 5250
emulation!! The manager explained to me that the front desk’s staff used a
GUI interface, as it was a lot easier and required less training, but it
was prone to errors (sometimes it “hanged-up”) and, at the same time, it
was slower. Managers used the green screen interface, as it was a lot
faster and reliable.

And I think that sums it up: 5250 is a very reliable (simple) interface
and, for some applications, cannot be beat in things like response time. On
the other hand, a BIG factor involving GUI is the easiness of use,
requiring almost no training. Nowadays, almost anyone is comfortable with
some kind of GUI interface, due to things that range from computers to
phones and even TVs.

Best Regards,

Luis Rodriguez
(Who began, a long time ago, programming with pre-5250 interfaces (S/32
anyone?) and nowadays is doing mostly client/server and web-based
programming).
