Has anybody had any experience of using Bruce Vining's EDITC UDF for SQL?

I have just created the UDF, but when I run a select statement and include EDITC (BGROSS, 11, 2, 'L') it inserts a gap of 246 characters before the next column is displayed.
Has anybody else had this problem, or know how to resolve it?
