Dear Rob;

I am grateful for your valuable recommendations.

I will check out and try this query in "Run SQL Scripts" located in AS400
Operations Navigator/Database section.

Many thanks chief :)

if you have other database experience you should feel at home on the i.
Have you ever heard of something called SYSCOLUMNS on SQL Server and
others? We have that.
On 5250 you can use STRSQL, in iNav you can try "Run SQL Scripts" located
in Database to try:
SELECT
/* Big DB2 type names */
COLUMN_NAME, TABLE_NAME, TABLE_OWNER,
/* System names */
SYSTEM_COLUMN_NAME, SYSTEM_TABLE_NAME, SYSTEM_TABLE_SCHEMA
where ...
FROM syscolumns;

Or, if you have lots of time and disk to spare you try DSPFFD to an output
file and query that to get the stuff that you can already get from the
above query.

Subject: How to Navigate On Database Fields?
Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Friends;

Can you please how I can inquire and know the database columns and field
names (together with their real names/synonyms ) in AS/400 ISeries?

Through AS/400 Operations Navigator? or through any other supplemental
tools?

*For example*:

*GLPN.....G/L Period Number*
*GLLT......Ledger Type*
*GLDCT........Document Type*
*GLDOC........Document Number*

Maybe it's one of the minor issues for most of you (IBM experts), however
a
major question for such non-technical persons like me :)

Many thanks in advance...
Best Regards,
Ozgur
