Hello Yvan,
You can only do a scratch install with v4r5 but you then need keys for that.
Why not stay with the v5r1 installation and do a save 21 to tape?

Btw we do offer more than a free public as400 if you need to go to a higher release.

learn some more about it. It was preloaded with V5R1, and I saved the
license keys on a safe spot, but I don't have V5R1 installation media. I do
have V4R5 media, and if I attempt to use them to install it, it first stays
for about 5 minutes looking for a tape, and then starts looking on the CD.

After a while it states that the media is unsupported. Is there a check
which prevents downgrading?

The current install has the development tools stripped off, and I need
them, that's why I'm attempting this.
