Hopefully I'm answering what you're asking.

It's my understanding that some of these PowerEdge servers we're using are simply workhorses. "This one here" runs the SQL Server engine, "that one there" runs some other Windows application. My question is, do we need to replace these pieces of hardware with IBM BladeServer in order to get the same functionality?

Thanks,
Kurt

I am curious about your question: "1. Are we required to use IBM's blades in an iSCSI network? We have some Dell PowerEdge servers that we'd like to be able to use. "

The "we'd like to be able to use." is the phrase I am wondering about.
How are you planning to use them? I have a JS12 and multiple HS blades in my BC-S the HS blades providing firewall and other services. Are you planning to use them as initiators, targets? Just curious as to what you were planning to use them for in the iSCSI network as you referred to them in your post.
