I didn't know we could do that. Is that the IP address we use to connect to the IBM i, or the address the HMC uses for communication?

I tried both, just in case, but neither worked for me.

An error occurred attempting to contact the remote system. Ensure a valid hostname or IP address has been entered and try the operation again.

HSCP0156

The HMC is able to ping the system IP address I used and is connected to the system for management.

HMC Version 7, release 3.5.0, service pack 0, build level 20091201.1, model 7310CR4

Any ideas?

I do it this way:

1. HMC management
2. Back up HMC data
3. Select "Send back up critical data to remote site"
4. Put in LPAR ip address, user name, password. I use a folder in the IFS to store three versions of the backup

I also do to a USB stick as well.

Since my hmc backup keeps filling the dvd I am looking at backing it up to a stream file on an IBM i lpar instead. How would I go about doing that?
