Rob, single tape device.

Is he using a tape library or a tape device?
I suspect he is using a tape library, configured sequentially as a tape
device. And what is happening is that his backup is taking more than one
tape. He doesn't want it placed in the I/O slot(s) when the tape fills,
instead he wants to to go back into the library. Perhaps it takes more
than 2 tapes and he only has one I/O slot. Those of us with 18 I/O slots
have to remember those without.

ENDOPT is not pertinent to this as that only says what to do with the last
tape when the save completes, not what to do when the tape fills.

Ideally he would leave the darn thing as a media library, load up BRMS and
configure that. It took me a LOT of cajoling to be assimilated into the
BRMS realm. But now that I'm there, I like it.

I might be tempted to delve into QSYSOPR or DSPLOG and see the messages in
the CPA4088 genre and see if there's some way to control what happens when
the tape fills. But I don't think you can. From the help on ENDOPT:

Specifies the operation that is automatically done on the tape or
optical volume after the save operation ends. If more than one
volume is used, this parameter applies only to the last volume used;
all other volumes are unloaded when the end of the volume is
reached.

The actual CL program that is running is QMNSAVE. You can retrieve the
CL source.

You'll find the save commands if you search for them. Every ENDOPT()
parameter that I was able to find is set to *LEAVE (V7R1).

In any case you can always modify the program and put the default you
wish in there. You can also preface it with "??" to cause the prompt to
come up if the program is set to prompt. (an option on the 21 save)

Does anyone know where it gets this from, it would appear that the
