Don't change anything but create a empty file called "sales" using dds.

This will be your "new" file and use it to compile with.

You can very easily do all your program describe files to external in a few
days. Your biggest single problem is making sure you have a VERY accurate
file layout.

Be really careful in creating the "new" external files in another library prior to
conversion. I have seen several files lost by a programmer compiling the "new"
file into the same library that the old file exists in.

The other problem of course is to get the old data copied to the new file and
back in to the correct library. That can be very time consuming.

This was a very common problem all S/36 folks had to deal with.
