Help with message CPF5216 (Changed field is not a valid decimal number)

All,
I have an interactive RPGLE program that is receiving this message
intermittantly when writing a subfile control record.
All references I can find are from 2008 regarding a COBOL program and from
what I can tell, that was not resolved.
I took a dump at the error RNQ1255 Session or device error occurred in file
FININITFM, but all numeric screen fields appear to have valid numeric
values.
The system is on V7R1M0.
How can I find what it is complaining about?
