Hi there,

I decided to try Chris's advice about setting the battery to failed state. Unfortunately, I didn't get Larry's message telling me not to until it was too late. :-(

Anyway, Chris' suggestion didn't work. It still gives the same SRC (27639022) even with the battery set to failed.

Next, I tried Larry's suggestion of running the "Reclaim IOP Cache Storage". When I take that option from DST, it says "No subsystems require cache storage reclaim." And nothing changes.

So... now I'm wondering if there's any way (if if it's an unsupported "trick") to undo Chris's suggestion about setting the battery to failed?

I'm thinking I'm probably going to have to wipe out the whole system and reinstall from scratch (which is okay, this is just my experimental system, it has no useful data on it.) But it'd probably go faster with a working cache battery.

If replacing the battery is my only option, can anyone suggest where I could get a new battery cheap? (The company isn't willing to spend money on this system, as far as they are concerned, it can just be junked... so whatever I spend is coming out of my pocket.)

Thanks!

Wrong procedure. Yes you will need to purchase new batteries if you do
this. I'm not even sure if this will work as the card will want to
write to the dead drive and we already have that problem.

IPL to DST (can't do this from SST)

Work with Disk Units
Work with Disk Unit Recovery
Reclaim IOA cache storage

It will warn and complain and clear the cache and require an IPL.

I suspect this will solve the problem as there will no longer be data in
the cache for the thing to want to write to the drive.

I would note that having a full system save prior to doing this is
prudent. :-)

STRSST
1 - Start a service tool
7 - Hardware service manager
9 - Work with resources containing cache battery packs
2 - Force batter into error state will turn off the cache and disable it.

System will be real slow until you re-enable the cache.
