Your select statement is so very close to the answer...

Update trans a set tsts = 'O'
where not exists (select * from master where mcono=tcono and mcust=tcust and
mtickn=ttickn and mdate=tdate)

Note: My sql statements usually take 2 tries before the typos are fixed, so
I cannot guarantee the above statement will work as is.

Subject: Update "orphan" entries with SQL

I have a master file with the following keyfields:
mcono, mcust, mtickn, mdate

And a transaction file:
tcono, tcust, ttickn, ttdate, tprod, tunits, tsts

The transaction file matches to the master file:
mcono=tcono, mcust=tcust, mtickn=ttickn, mdate=ttdate

What I need to do is to update the tsts field to "O" if there is no matching
master entry for the transaction record. Here's what I have for the
selection:

select * from trans where not exists (select * from master where mcono=tcono
and mcust=tcust and mtickn=ttickn and mdate=tdate)

How do I adjust that so that I update the tsts field?

Thanks!

TomH
