Rob - our 3580-l33 is a standalone single drive. I sure hope that it can be configed as a device.

We did have BRMS but the trial period ran out on the Media and Storage Extensions and IBM would not sell us the [V5R2] license for it. Which was odd since they did sell us the license for BRMS itself (but BRMS is useless w/o Media and Storage Extensions).

Just to throw some fear factor in here... Our 3576 uses LTO3 tapes. It
CANNOT be configured as a device; only a library. IOW, you can not
reconfigure it from random to sequential like other devices. You might
want to figure that out. We had to drastically rewrite our backup steps
learning a bunch of new commands like SETTAPCGY, ADDTAPCTG, WRKTAPCTG,
etc. Of course, it's much easier if you take that opportunity to plunge
into BRMS.
