If you're looking to add to your options for querying data on the iSeries, our iForms product can be used to generate database driven forms and reports as well as generating spool file overlays for existing spool files. You can even do combination documents where you include data from the spool files and additional info from a database file.
If you put external definitions on your QS36F files we should be able to easily include those files in the data source mix.
