Long ago, I switched all my remote outq's to writers with device descriptions and incorporated this exit program. It works fantastic although I have had issues printing documents several thousand pages long (W2's, for example). For those, we just print by page ranges of 1000 or so.

Subject: Re: Remote outq vs. *DEVD - Page Range?

a google of "destopt remote outq" gets many hits - here's a KB on this

There's a lot of info that is helpful and useful to read about. Search
in the article for "DESTOPT".

There are others - if you see a reference to XAUTOQ, you can ignore it
for versions from V4R4M0 on up.

Does this mean that a remote outq can be set up to handle page ranges? If so, how would that be done?

Thanks!

This is why remote outqs don't handle page range (by default). It always
sends the whole spooled file (unless you use an exit program to
workaround that), as if planning to re-queue it somewhere else. The
original Unix systems didn't have an option for "page range" in the
control file -- though, some (such as AIX) added it later... thus the
DESTOPT(XAIX) workaround.
