The difference between 36k and 8k is 28k. A 70GB disk is going on ebay
for $600. That's 116,667KB/$. That's 2/10 of a penny's disk!

Reminds me of the time I had a carpenter bill me 2 hours time for a miter
box he built himself instead of going to the hardware store and buying
one. Why should he spend money on tools when he can bill me for the time
he wastes!?

You could try a stream file instead. No, wait, you may not like that. I
stored 32 bytes in one and got:
Size of object data in bytes . . . . . : 34
Allocated size of object . . . . . . . : 8192
