In general, if you are current with cume's and other ptf's then you
shouldn't have to worry about "resaves". The main times that resaves can
be a concern are:
- During an upgrade of the OS. Certain hardware may not work with older
resaves. Once you get to the level of ptf needed then upgrading the
hardware isn't often as much of an issue. YMMV. It's a chicken and egg
thing.
- Sometimes new functions came out with the resave. Most notably V5R4R5
versus V5R4M0 or 6.1.1 versus 6.1.0. But those were mainly hardware.

7.1 does this mainly with "Technology Refreshes". Which is like a special
ptf group. Can require an additional step to apply but not as much as an
upgrade from V5R4M0 to V5R4M5. These TR's are often loaded into a new
Resave to make it easier for customers upgrading their OS to 7.1 to get it
in one shot versus two.
