We've had good results with Tomcat 6.

But then we tried Tomcat 7, and the "Catalina" job hung (after bringing
up Tomcat itself, but evidently while bringing up the sample webapps),
leaving an exception in catalina.out:

and looking up "/QIBM/UserData/Java400/ext/jdbc2_0-stdext.jar," I find
that it's a SYMLNK that apparently goes nowhere:

db2_classes.jar SYMLNK->STMF
db2routines_classe > SYMLNK->STMF
eim.jar SYMLNK->STMF
eimos400.jar SYMLNK->STMF
jdbc2_0-stdext.jar SYMLNK
jta-spec1_0_1.jar SYMLNK
runtime.zip SYMLNK->STMF

Anybody know what's going on here?

What version of Java? Tomcat 7 requires Java 1.6 or better. Tomcat 6 was
supposed to run with Java 1.5. There's also a jdk6 version of JT400
that's the same deal. Attempting to run on Java 1.5 or less causes bad
things to happen.
