My last on this for now: I did an emperical study. Given a library LIB1 that contained journal object JOURNAL1, and several files associated with that journal. CPYLIB FROMLIB(LIB1) TOLIB(LIB2) CRTLIB(*YES) was executed. At completion of the CPYLIB, the files in LIB2 were not journaled to any journal.

Have you considered CPYLIB as an alternate strategy? Or how about SAVRSTOBJ, which, if I recall correctly, shares the same "limitation?"

Caveat: This was at V5R3 and was a simple test.

It occurs to me that one could also end the MIMIX data group for this

ideal, perhaps, but....

Point is, you are trying to defeat a _feature_ of Save/Restore that
most
everyone wants.

If I were trying to do same, I might go about it by using the security
feature.

Restore as a user who has *EXCLUDE privileges to the Journal. That
might do
the trick.

Clearly the original journal is know. But if I restore to a
*different*
library, it does not seem to make sense to automatically start
journaling especially to the *same* journal. This seems like an
unwarranted assumption *if* there is no way to override it.

So I remain confused...

You aren't missing a parm for "don't journal". You have no choice.
