Working for a software company, we had a solution that ran on iSeries.
When trying to sell the solution, all the competitors would slam our
solution, claiming it was just one of those old AS/400s. When the System i
came along, the same thing happened, and we would be kicked out of over
50% of the prospects because we were perceived to have an "old" system. Of
course, it ran in Windows and browser, and the companies who had the
software had no idea what was running on the back end - in fact, they just
called it "the IBM", and wondered why their closet was a little warmer.

When Power Systems were announced, for RFQ responses, we would use OS =
IBM i, server = Power Systems. From that time forward, not a single
competitor ever used the word AS/400 against us. Not once. We were kept in
more sales situations for longer. Today, the application is 100% PHP
running with an IBM i DB2 SQL database, and there is no connection
visibly, or name-wise, to the perceived "old" AS/400. Each year since
2008, this application, and a Power System running IBM i is sold to
several new customers.

FORUM!! When did that happen? Can we go back to the mailing list; I do
not like forums as well as well as mailing lists. Unless you meant forum
as in://*"*a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open
discussion or expression of ideas" then never mind.

Do you have any proof that if more people called it IBM i on power (or
whatever it was called when IBM changed the name) there would be one
more company using it? I think if you can prove that, you will get more
people supporting your position, then by calling us names. Until then I
am just going to nickname mine ..... what for it ...... F.R.E.D. what
did you think it was going to be AS400.

And if you think I just think it is a laughing matter, I am very
concerned about jobs in my area, I have gone back to school (could be
why I want proof, no professor would let me get away with just calling
him a name, and not backing up my claim with support evidence) . But if
I had to choose if the lack of jobs was because of what people call it,
IBM marketing it, or the economy, the name would not be my first choice.
