Good idea. I went into System Navigator and set up a few metrics to track with the system performance tool. I'll use the data to make my case.

As for costing, yes most of those apply (we buy vs. lease though). I know of a few processes where they wait for a large print job to complete (print-pause-print-pause-etc).

Thanks.

Subject: Re: New Power 7 - Building a Case

We're in the process of getting quotes, etc. for a new Power-7 box
(to replace our 520 - Power 4/5? - we purchased new in 2006). I'm
trying to build a case for our senior management group as to why we need
it.

Put together some performance data that translates into dollars of benefit
to balance the dollars of cost. Show the cost over time. Show the cost
of not upgrading. Are people waiting on the system? How many of them and
what is their time worth? How much are you paying now per month of
operation? Are you leasing? Is leasing the new system an option vs. a
big cash outlay? Can you sell the old system or derive other benefit from
it? You won't find those answers on Google but if you can build a good
argument it might carry more weight.
