Which is best, Authorization lists or Group Profiles ?

I'd say both. This is pretty spurious, but hopefully it gets the point
across. Say you've got a shoe store that sells Nike and Adidas. They're
sold by Nike salespeople and Adidas salespeople, but you need to track
premiums, and can't intermix the data, because the manufacturer can query
their own premiums table. New salesperson? No problem. Add to the
AddidasSales or NikeSales group. Salesperson changes product group? Easy.
Delete from one, add to the other. New manager? You're just as top heavy
as we are. Each person belongs to a group (or maybe more than one, but
keep it to a minimum.) Each authorization list can manipulate a group of
objects with some common characteristic.

Groups:
AdidasSales
Fred
Jane
AdidasCorp

NikeSales
Alice
Bob
NikeCorp

Management
TheBoss
TheVP
ThePres

AuthLists:
AdidasData
AdidasSales
Management

NikeData
NikeSales
