I shall probably mess this up, but it should be close enough to get the idea across.

1 - Give a name to your IFS directory in your network's DNS.
example: "Thor" would map to: "192.168.8.4/whatEverIFSDirectory" you want as the target.

2 - Create your various folder structures under there with various permissions and complexity, as you deem appropriate.

3 - As an aid to the users, you can e-mail them iconic links to be dropped on their desktops, for various folders and applications, or create a web page at "Thor" with instructions, links, and file indexes.

There are many variations on the theme, but the kernel of this is to tie a name/url in your network DNS to a specific directory tree in the IFS.

We have done something similar. We put up a green screen with instructions to the user. Something like name the file XXXXX.YYY and place it at the root of your H: drive (H: drive is a map to a windows server). There is no browsing around to any location the user wants, they have to put the file in a set location using a set name. We then initiate an FTP session from the green screen app to FTP to the H: drive location on the Windows server and get the file and place it in the IFS (sometimes renaming it to be sure it is unique). Then do what is needed with the contents of the file. In your case I would think that would just be saving the IFS path to a database field. Then to show it to someone else from a green screen app gets interesting. You would need to give everyone a drive mapping to the IFS location with all the files (and all users would have access to see all files) and then use STRPCCMD to open the file using the app based on the file extension.

The problem with initiating either STRPCCMD or STRRMTCMD from an F key is getting the user to save the puppy to the right spot on the IFS.
Initiating a web session may give you more control.
