To see the difference between source members, there is always the CMPPFM command that comes with the system. This one does a pretty good job - it's part of i5/OS - has been for a long time. It has *DIFF, *CHANGE, *SUMMARY, and *DETAIL report types, as well as *LINE, *FILE, and *WORD compare types.

You didn't say that they have a SCM package - most of them let you specify what compare/merge tool to use for comparing current and archived. But if your customer has saved older versions, CMPPFM is just about ideal. It can be done like this - this will product a report of the line differences for all source members of the same name in the 2 libraries.

CMPPFM NEWFILE(NEWLIB/QRPGLESRC)
NEWMBR(*ALL)
OLDFILE(OLDLIB/QRPGLESRC)
OLDMBR(*NEWMBR)
CMPTYPE(*LINE)
RPTTYPE(*DIFF)
OUTPUT(*PRINT)

Vern, It was so great to meet you as well and thank you for all the
recommendations/suggestions.

David and Mike, you are correct in that my client really needs to be able to
perform an audit to see what has changed in the source code (it is an i
shop) for audit purposes. Aldon is being used today and evidently is not
giving them what they need. I will pass along the information and may have
more questions. I will also invite him to join this discussion group.

My guess is you want tracking similar to what subversion does? I can
do a diff and see that I changed a> to a<. Is this correct?

What would you recommend for software package on the i that will track
