WIth V6r1 and newer you can as Jim said, use the 'Short Stack' on the target system to access NFS shared images on a Source system. So it's 1/2 NFS half not.

Essentially you share the directory on the source system with NFS and enable PUBLIC all for the nfs security. There is a file VOLUME_LIST that contains all the volumes you wish to share. There may be an Image Catalog on the source system but it's irrelevant and not used for this support (except you CAN use it to create the VOLUME_LIST file with CFYIMGCLG NFSSHARE(*YES) ) The network interface on this system or partition may *NOT be using Jumbo Frames, don't do it.

On the target system you create a virtual optical drive that points back to the NFS share on the source system. You MUST also enable a service tools interface in SST for the source system that is in the same IP network as the source system. This can by a physical or Logical network.

Then vary on the optical drive and use it in GO PTF option 8. Works MARVELOUSLY for small partitions especially as you move the READ I/O to the source partition.

Are you sure image catalogs are supported from NFS mounts, I don't
believe they are. I remember Larry and I both trying them in lots of
different ways to get at the data on a different machine. We never did
get it to work, and the guy who wrote the support from Rochester
snickered at us when we suggested what we tried when we were both up
there for other reasons. That said, at V7 you can use an image catalog
on one partition across the "short stack" to another one but that is as
close as it comes.
