Re: ASMI Port ?

Well, I am finding on my network that the 169 is not routable??

My work around is to hard code to eth1 a workable static IP that I can then
gain access to the system remotely via browser or HMC.

Today we do not utilize the ASMI within the network.

Was looking for alternative ways to do a couple of things.

First LAN console uses a completely different physical port than the HMC
port where you can get to ASMI. You can have both plugged in to your
network and configured. You do not need a HMC to reach AMSI it is

nothing

more than a web interface. You can then enter a second IP address on any
PC on the same network segment as the iSeries HMC port and access AMSI by
remoteing to the PC first then browsing to the AMSI IP address

ports are shipped as 169.254.2.147 and 169.254.3.147. If you look at

documentation to access this they always seem to write it up in such a

way

that they expect you to be locat to the machine with a PC locally

attached

and a PC IP on the same network as the default ASMI IP address. Has

anyone

else had an issue with this, if so how did you get around it, unless

there

is an easy way to toggle a system from using LAN Console and then back

to

HMC or vice/versa.
