I'd like to thank everyone for sharing such great information....

Even though we have been running our Customer Information System on IBM AS400 / Power6 hardware since 1997, our SAP implementation was done on PC Server / Windows hardware.

This decision was made because the consultants we hired preferred Windows (they could make more money!) and our management staff making the decision, has always leaned heavily toward the PC side of things. I believe this was because there was a certain "comfort" level involved in using any Windows solution.

The original hardware costs were higher with IBM hardware, but over time we have spent a lot more supporting the SAP on Windows than I believe we would have if SAP was on IBM...

Then again, we have made a huge investment in SAP on Windows... It will be a very difficult argument to convince management to switch hardware platforms now. The reason this is even coming up is that we want to move into using Virtual Servers for SAP. Instead of seeing the potential for future cost savings, they might think of switching hardware platforms now as a failure in picking Windows hardware in the first place. And no one would ever want to admit that....

Thanx again guys!
