Pete,

I think you will find that the web version does not have all the database features included in Navigator - including Run SQL Scripts.

There shouldn't be a compatibility problem with V5R4 of iNav accessing a V6R1 system - I have accessed bot V6R1 and V7R1 systems with a V5R3 version of iNav. Might help if you told us what was happening - can you open Run SQL Scripts, does it not get a connection, does Navigator hang, smoke coming out the back of the PC...?

Developers require access to Basic Operations, File Systems and Database - and Sys Admin can control it so you only get access to these features - that is what Application Administration is for.

David,
If you are on V6R1, then just use Systems Director Navigator. Point
your browser to http://iSeries-name-or--address:2001
Once you sign in you will see all those functions in the lefthand window
pane. It's a great tool.

Pete

Subject: iNav

I can no longer execute sql scripts with iNav. I'm presuming that this is
because of missing PTF or the wrong version of iNav. About iSeries Navigator
shows Version 5 release 4 modification level 0. Our OS is V6R1. Is this
compatible?

As developers, we had to battle to get the right to use iNav as it was
considered a tool for the system people only. Now, I find I'm only using it
for working with spool files as little else works.

I want to make a list to argue my case for upgrading this tool. What
features of iNav would you consider most useful from a DEVELOPER's point of
view?
