If you do a SAVE 21/Restore 21 to get from the 810 to the 525 you don't need to do any PTFs 'Just Because' of that move. You DO want to be current despite that although the 525 isn't a particularly new machine. You say 'doesn't have the latest' but you DON'T say 'how much not' :-)

We system guys AND IBM always recommend being current on PTFs when moving hardware so that you don't have problems.

If it's in the 2010 time frame you'll be fine. If it's 2009, likely OK but would do PTFs BEFORE I moved. If 2008, um, can we talk? :-)

All,

Moving from an v5r4 810 to a 525.

The 810 doesn't currently have the latest cume, hipers group, or DB
group PTFs....

Should that be a red flag?

Does IBM recommend somewhere that the system have the latest PTF's
before such a migration? Or that we apply the latest PTFs to the new
box after the migration?

If the existing box was current, would we need to reapply PTFs once on
the new hardware?

Thanks!
