Ah, finally found it in an example.

In "System i Systems management Journal management Version 6, Release 1",
page 37:

"If the journal is set up as MNGRCV(*SYSTEM), the receiver name wraps around
to 0’s (ABCDEF0000). If the journal is set up as MNGRCV(*USER), an error
occurs because adding 1 to 9999 causes an overflow condition."

I can't find the ID of the book, like "SCxx-nnnn" but the PDF I downloaded
from the InfoCenter is rzaki.pdf.

Since mine is MNGRCV(*USER), I will handle it myself in the program that
does the CHGJRN command.

Sheesh. I completely misunderstood what SEQOPT(*RESET) was for.

I thought that when a journal receiver chain approached the name limit,
like ABCDEF9999, this was needed to reset it to ABCDEF0001. But upon
further reading, that's not it at all, is it?

So how does it get from 9999 to 0001? Does the OS just handle it?

Mine's at 9936.

Thanks.

Does the command CHGJRN SEQOPT(*RESET) on a user managed journal require
an
IPL for the reset?

I think it just needs no 'pending' commits or rollbacks.
