Kirk and Pete,

Thank you for your responses. I do not want to run a guest partition as
I will need to bring down each partition separately. The current system
is our HA system and we have an aging Power 5 520 that uses very little
CPU and disk. I have two active processors but only one licensed to
i5/OS. I already have two external SAS EXP24 connected to a 572F-001
Storage IOA in slot C4 & 575C-001 in C5. This is one double wide card.
Each disk drawer has 10 drives. The internal LTO-4 tape and DVD appear
to be on a different storage controller. There are no internal disks.

There is an HMC.

So if I add internal disk I should be able to use them and create a new
partition. That partition would have to take over the Tape and DVD
since they will be on the same controller. What about the Ethernet? I
am currently using both ports, one for the HA software and the other for
regular access. I guess I could put both IP addresses on one port since
they are in the same subnet. We do not backup the HA partition since it
is in a remote data center and it would be very expensive to have remote
hands swap tapes. The current 520 we have out this is also a mirror
of an 820 we have here and does not get backed up. So can I create a
physical partition without adding an expansion drawer?
