Rob,

Do you have the i configured to deliver outbound the mail itself? Or
do you have it set to forward all mail to INTERNOTES? Take a look at
the MAILROUTER, FIREWALL, and FWDHUBSVR parameters of the CHGSMTPA
command.

I don't believe the i supports direct redundancy when configured to
forward outbound mail...

If the i is supposed to be delivery mail itself, check that it sees
all three MX records.

HTH,
Charles

We are running 7.1 of i on lpar GDIHQ.  It uses the QTmmSendMail api to
send out email.  A sample address would be rob@xxxxxxxxxx  This should
route out of that box and go to our email.  Our email is Lotus Domino.
Domino has three smtp servers:  INTERNOTES, INTERNOTES02 and INTERNOTES3.
All three of these Domino servers run on different boxes.  They are all
running 7.1 of i and 8.5.2 of Lotus Domino.  The problem is that if
INTERNOTES is down then the email
doesn't route.  Once INTERNOTES is back up attempts to jump start stuck
email are unsuccessful.  We've tried ENDMSF followed by STRMSF *RESET.
This did not help.

Results below are from the component journals.

Another attempt to duplicate this situation was to drop INTERNOTES, send
out an email and watch it.  After I brought INTERNOTES back up and did the
STRMSF *RESET it was delivered.  I wonder if the downtime exceeds a
certain length, or number of tries, if the email then goes into vapor.
Hmmm... let me check something in iNav...
SMTP properties, Outbound Mail Retries, Number of retries = 3, Time
between retries = 30 minutes.
This ties in EXACTLY with the times on the 8E and 8B entries in the
component journals.
I kicked up the number of retries to 8 and bounced smtp.

Why doesn't it just use INTERNOTES02 or INTERNOTES3 when INTERNOTES is
down?
