Don't even -try- to include "department" in the user profile. We use
the 1st two characters of the profile as a plant location code. I tried
including the user's department as part of the user profile as well, and
by the time I was starting on the 2nd location, at least one person at
the first location had switched departments on me!

We do create directory entries for all users. If you're not using the
directory for anything else, it's there for the using!

You can access some of the files used by the directory (PLEASE-- READ
ONLY!) directly if you need to do any work with them. Some are indexed
by the user profile, some by the directory entry.

QAOFENRB and logical QAOFENR2
QAOFODTY and logical QAOFOTMG
QAOKP01A and its logicals QAOKL01A QAOKL02A QAOKL03A QAOKL13A QAOZL03A

QATMSMTPA - this is the file that contains the link between directory
entry and the email address assigned to that entry (yes, we still send
emails from the system to users. But all incoming mail goes to their
PCs).

Subject: Managing User Profiles

How do you manage user profiles with respect to position and department?
Do you create a directory entry for each user? I'd give my eyeteeth for
a department field in user profiles...
