That is very good. A good guess for the error would be a media error that the microcode for the drive did not recognize. If you do not reinitialize your tapes every time you use them then you can use SST to verify the errors on each tape and willow out the tapes that are starting to show wear and tear. This is the biggest argument for properly using expiration dates and only initializing a tape one time. You get the statistics on the tape.

The abnormal switch most likely was turned on when the tape device failed.
