I suppose if you get into a bind you could always break it up
cd /start
cd level 2
cd level 3
...
put myfile.txt

We need to place files onto a new server. This new server has long
directory/folder names, and we need to traverse a few levels down. So the
driver is the new need to specify a long path on a PUT command.

I do understand that the interactive FTP command is quite long, and I
understand also that in unix systems the input length is virtually
limitless. But I just need to understand if I use a 256-byte input file,
FTP isn't going to lop of the characters after position x. I'd test this
if
I could, but there are limitations to our test case. So looking for a
documented answer.

Couple questions, what is dictating the longest length that you need in
your
ftp input file.
If you look at an FTP screen the area that you could free format type a
command is quite long.
I have one ftp input file defined as 92 and another defined as 198.
