More on looking at QUSLSPL - there is this statement -

The list of spooled files returned is sorted by status, output priority, date, and time.

That seems to correspond to what the system does - it doesn't say exactly how it does that - does it use the numeric status, or does it use the managed sort of status in WRKSPLF? But it might be worth a look.

I have a command that's an "enhanced" version of WRKSPLF on my website.
It
allows sorting by any column in the list. The source code is included,
it
also uses the QGYOLSPL API. You can take a look at it if you want if
nothing else other than the code for sorting, etc. the website is
Http://tommyholden.com under the downloads section.
