Hi Dave,

We have done this since the Palm Treo days for web-enabled smart phones. You can detect the browser and/or screen size and redirect smart phones to a smaller layout screen.

Mostly we use it for our Sales team, pushing out product availability and dates, recent sales figures, product photos, etc. We considered doing actual order entry, but that has not materialized.

I wish I could say it was a sweeping success, but of 15 or so Sales Reps, maybe a third really embrace it. Another third use it once in a while, and the balance pretend it does not exist.

With the larger screens out now, we are going to revamp the interface to make things a little easier on the eyes and/or cram some more content in there. Not sure which yet :)

Good luck,
David

Gang,

I haven't been on here for awhile so I might have missed discussions on this.

How many folks are developing apps that provide modern access to iseries data via
"smart phones"? I think it goes without saying "smart phone" access to data is the
"in" thing. I'm ask about this to see if the iseries community is into this modern way of accessing data. I'm not talking about 5250 emulation, although I'm sure there is a need for such access, I'm talking about graphical applications that access company information stored on an iseries with respect to business areas such as customer, product, sales, ordering, system management, business intelligence/ data warehouse applications, etc., etc.

If many ARE doing such apps, I'd like to know if it is, indeed, a popular type of application development for the iseries, what sort of apps are popular, pros and cons developing these sorts of apps for the iseries, problems, what types of languages are used for such applications, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Dave Odom

Just under a year. As far as I know, no warning signs, but do you ever
get a warning sign on a disk drive? I just RAID them. System is running
fat, dumb and happy waiting on the disk drive to come from Ohio to Fort
Wayne and then here.

That didn't take very long did it? Have these even been in a year yet?
Were there any warning signs?

No indications one way or the other. Our ERP software is BPCS. We set
the preferred drives to the SSD's for all the files in that library. Of
course, there's something about SSD's that seem to encourage all data to
cling to them.

Can you spot the SSD's by % used?
Size %
Unit Type (M) Used
1 433C 127892 56.8
91 58B0 52344 71.5
92 58B0 52344 71.6
93 58B0 52344 71.6
94 58B0 52344 71.6
95 433C 127892 56.6
96 433C 127892 56.6
97 433C 127892 56.6
...

So there would be a lot of writing along with reading.
