Well moving the folders on both machines out of the /home folder structure
has solved the mounting and displaying the contents of the target on the
Linux machine.

Now I'm having some difficulties with CCSID's. I'm trying to copy some
random STMF files from the i5 to the Linux box by copying them into the
folder that is mounted. Just can't seem to get it to complete a copy. I
will do more Monday. Hey I might even do some reading!

Hi Kirk.

The problem with exporting directories from within '/home' is that on
the linux side, permissions are set on home directories as 700, which
means only the owner can get access. The UID that the i5 is sending to
the Linux box for the NFS connection is undoubtedly NOT the same as the
uid of 'kirk' on the Linux side, thus Linux is forbidding access.

There are some workarounds to this.

One, if the i5 permits it, is to force the UID to be the same as 'kirk'
on Linux in your NFS connection. Another is would be be employ ACLs on
your specific directory. See my article:

http://www.mcpressonline.com/operating-systems/linux-open-source/the-linux-letter-access-control-lists.html
for further information.

Better than sharing out access from within 'home' is creating a new
directory, say '/srv/nfs', that you can use for building shared
directories and then using symlinks from your home directory to the
shared directories.

Regards,

Barry
