What viewer? Do you mean EDTF? If so do you mean it guessed the data
is EBCDIC (i.e. a message on the message line saying it looks like
EBCDIC)?

I'm using a viewer on the PC (part of salamander) looking at the file on the 400. It
shows that it's EBCDIC on the top heading line.

If I use Ultra Edit the file looks like garbage.

If so then check the CCSID of the XML stream files.
If this is wrong
(i.e. doesn't match the actual data content) then that may be the
cause of your trouble. If the data is correct but the CCSID is wrong
you can use the CHGATR command to fix the stream file CCSID. If the
CCSID is correct but the data should be in a different CCSID then use
the CPY command to copy elsewhere and convert the data to the correct
CCSID.

Using Wrklnk, display attributes on the file it shows the Code page is 37.

Even though the code page is correct I think it's still in EBCDIC. I'm surprised that
Client Access doen't convert it to ASCII automatically.

Thanks,

Gary
