Thanks Larry ....

I'm going to get through the migration using FTP with the systems
side-by-side so that should not be an issue. We configured a bare bones
configuration, so I'm sure that tape controller is not there. I have two
considerations, one based on a bunch of tapes that I have sitting here
used for offline backup. I'm looking at transferring them to Amazon S3
for safe keeping. I can restore them from S3 onto the new box when
needed. But, I have a customer with a 520 and QIC tape who periodically
needs to send sizable data and program libraries to me and that's where I
was hoping to find a conversion service that someone from the list knows
to be reliable.

Rick,

I've never been happy with the DAT type drives but understand the
cost difference between that and the LTO drives which I've never been
sad about. For small systems you are likely OK with the DAT. You didn't
say if your new system has anyplace to put a tape controller card and
IOP combination so I'm expecting there isn't any. If you had that then
you can acquire a box to mount your QIC drive in and connect it to the
system for migrations.

I'm sure there are conversions available out there and I do some
myself but I do not have a DAT drive so I'm no help on that score.

Hello list,

I am getting ready to replace my 520 with a new E4A and I see that the
tapes are incompatible. The 520 has a 1/4" QIC tape while the new system
comes with a DAT drive. I have quite a few off-line backups stored on QIC
tapes that I periodically need access to. Does anyone know of reliable
conversion services where I might be able to get these converted?

Or, is there an inexpensive third party QIC drive that might be an
option? If so, how does would it connect to the system?
