Not necessarily. When I started here, they had a sales history for each year. Running, for example, an SQL Select script or Query across one table (even at year end) is reasonably quick. Running the same SQL or Query takes forever when run over all years.

We still have separate libraries for each year. Most of our inquiries against sales involve this year and, possibly, last year ("Give me the sales for item xyz for the last 9 months"). I created a couple of joins: one over all years and one over the current year+last year.
