I understand what your saying and not disagreeing, I am suggesting however that the cause of the TCP hangup (The root cause of the problem) be found first. The rest becomes mechanics. There are so few instances where this happens that there is something going on that causes IP to hang up in this situation, find that, permanently repair the problem.

Do that instead of bandaging BRMS into a solution that will eventually bite back when you least expect it. As Larry likes to put it, don't arm landmines that you will eventually step on.

IBM really may suggest ensuring that TCP/IP is down prior to the ENDSBS.
I'm all for exhausting PMR's until an acceptable situation is obtained.
However, it's a document fact now that on supported releases of the OS you
really should drop TCP/IP prior to the ENDSBS or nasties may occur.
