1. Hot spare shouldn't be an issue. I'll leave that up to DrFranken.
2. I'm not too impressed with virtual tape. Especially if your LTO is on
a separate bus already. If your LTO isn't, evaluate that possibility.
That can often speed up your backup significantly.
3. Fun. But I think that will involve the SPENDMONEY command. I think
you may be diving into mirrored lpars and not mirrored ASP's here. 6.1 is
a good start to reduce your expense but power 6 combined with 6.1 really
reduces your expense with guested lpars. You may want to talk to your BP
about a HA solution. But once you go down that path you may start
thinking why a separate lpar and why not a separate box for not only the
backup elimination window but also the high availability option? See how
that would snowball? There's also some care and feeding of your HA
solution. Autonomics reduces this but there's still some.
