Patch level on HMC is 7.3.4 SP2 so I am ok at that point.

No, a new system will ship with EL_350 39 / 49, which requires 7.3.5 /
7.3.5 SP1.

So from the
power6 I could go from the hmc1 port to the the 5 port switch and then to
the back of the current HMC??

It depends. Have you configured a separate management network in which
the HMC acts as a DHCP server?

am back to once I do that then fire up the power6 box or do a add managed
system on the HMC first and if so to what IP??

If the HMC acts as a DHCP server, it will be added automatically.
Otherwise, you will need to look at your DHCP server to see what IP
the ASMI has obtained and connect to that. Alternatively, you can
connect a laptop to your system and access it using a fixed APIPA
address (On HMC1, this is 169.254.2.147).

There are a myriad of ways to go, depending on your situation. If you
want a more in-depth answer, you'll have to tell what you're doing
today.
