Kirk,

My experience (no data to support it) is that image catalogues are always faster when it comes to actual processing. Of course, you have to load the DVD's into the catalogue, but that's usually done early on, not during the actual upgrade.

That said, is there enough room on the system for the upgrade, Cume, and Groups to reside simultaneously? I did a 5.3 to 5.4 upgrade with all in the catalogues at the time, but we're not constrained by disk limitations (at this time, knock on wood).

Subject: 5.3 to 6.1 on Small 520 - DVD or Image Catalog?

I have a client that has a small ( 500CPW ) 520 with 3GB memory and 2 pairs
of 35GB drives Mirrored. Any have any idea if using an Image Catalog will be
faster on this system? I normally use Image Catalogs when I can where I can
load them up and start the upgrade and go get a nap whille it spins away
doing the upgrade. This upgrade is time sensitive and the less time I spend
the better. So would it be faster to come from the DVD's directly minimizing
the Disk I/O?

Thanks
