There's at least a couple of options:
1) An external print server that supports IPP such as
(Parallel & USB ports )
http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=21&FamID=42&ProdID=263
(USB only) http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=21&FamID=42&ProdID=224

2) Add IPP support to a windows 2003+ server that also can print to the printer

Charles,

I didn’t find any info in the http setup in regards to SNMP or IPP. Can you
tell me more about adding an external print server?

Note that configure the printer as a remote out queue should be your
last resort.

There are too many limitations with remote out queue attached
printers...the TSPLPRD utility helps but you'd be better off if you
can get SNMP, IPP. or PJL working.

The "Information on Printers from Okidata and OKI Printing Solutions"
document that Scott provided a link for should not be considered the
last word on the issue.  False negatives are not uncommon in that
family of documents.  It's pretty common for print servers, including
built in ones, to support SNMP and/or IPP now-a-days, though it may
not obvious from the printers documentation.  If the printer has
browser based admin, take a look around and see what you can find that
mentions SNMP or IPP (Simple Network Management Protocol or Internet
Print Protocol)

Additionally, you could always add an external print server that supported
IPP.

You specified SYSDRVPGM(*HPPJLDRV) on your CRTDEVPRT command so that is
telling the system you want to use PJL.
I've never used the TSPLPRD utility so I can't comment on how to set up
a device description with that program.

"If LPR is set to Y, then the printer model should work with a Remote
Output
Queue or a *LAN 3812 device description that uses the TSPLPRD utility,
both
of which communicate with the printer and print server using the TCP/IP
Line
Printer Requester (LPR) protocol."

Unless I reading this incorrectly, shouldn't I be able to create the
device
as a *lan 3812?

The IBM Support Knowledge Base article

a/4e596d0940ce1af1862569c100790da8?OpenDocument

shows that that printer can only be configured using LPR.  It doesn't
support PJL, SNMP or IPP.
So your can't configure it as a device.  It can only be set up as a
remote outq.

I tried to configure an Okidata ML421 on my iseries (v5r2), but when I
try
to print, the writer just ends abnormally.

Can someone tell me if my crtdevprt has any issues?
