No, I don't know the answer to that. The ongoing complaint that I had to listen to over and over ad nauseum was "Why should I pay for something that used to be free?" Feel free to check the archives. And whenever someone like me tried to explain that you were paying for it, I got shot down.

Sorry, a little short today, but then again I've never been big on revisionist history. And trust me, I understand David's point, I just want everyone to remember how bad that battle was - it wasted a lot of bandwidth and might have caused a few people who should have moved to RDi to not go there.

The truth is that you always paid for WDSC, but as IBM unbundled and rationalized (no pun intended) the costs, people got hit by the hard truths. I AM a little ticked off that Rational is dictating the price of RDi and raising the price on every release without putting in what I consider to be matching value, but that gets lost in the noise of "was free, now it isn't."

Anyway, enough from me on the subject. Thanks for listening. I now return you to your regularly scheduled mailing list.

Joe

Joe - you must know the answer to that - as David said, unlimited seats for the standard version were included with 57xx-WDS. With V6R1 that all changed.

And for AE you paid over and above the base cost of the licensed product.

Now there's a whole different pricing scheme.

And this is probably many people agreeing violently!

Regards
Vern

If it wasn't free, then why did people complain when IBM started charging for RDi?

Just to clarify - WDSC was never a for-fee utility. WDSC was always free, but there was "advanced" version (WDSCAE) with some more EJB stuff (and the first pass of the screen designer).
I don't think WDSC was actually FREE ... but unlimited seats of it it were included in the developer tools bundle, which you did paid for.
