The cleanest and least memory intensive would probably be to
use Microsoft's XML format. The problem with that is it's probably the
most complicated to use or at least start with :-)


If you want a starting place for how to create an Excel spreadsheet using
the XML approach, here is a tutorial I wrote awhile back.

Note that it is based on a commercial product, RPG-XML Suite (
